The accountant of the company I work at came into my office for some business. She was about to repay me a bill that I financed for the company. Here’s the written documentary of the transaction:
Woman: That’s 19,575.
Me: Okay, here’s 20,000.
Woman: I’ll be right back with the change. Need to go to my office first as I don’t have a calculator with me.
Me: Err?
Woman: I’m not an expert in mental arithmetic.
Well, I can see that…

Seriously now, I can see how people would feel this insecure. I mean, I would like to be completely sure of the digits if I’m dealing with that amount of money. And I would redo the operation some three time more :P
