It took 717 days to reach 100 thousand plays on Last.fm since I registered on the 31st of  March in 2007 which is an average of 140 songs per day. It’s not something I’m proud of or I was chasing though, it’s just that I thought it was worth a mention here.

Just like everything else on the net Last.fm has its addictions too. First of all, you tend to forget about your expensive stereo system and you keep on playing music on your computer. I do this for more than one reason though. My job ties me up to the computer for most of the day anyway so it feels natural to listen to music there. Whenever I go out biking with my MP3 player (I don’t have a fancy iPod) I try to keep track of what I was listening so later I can submit those tracks to Last.fm so they won’t “get lost”. Yes, I know that it sounds crazy. Indeed it is.

I’ve been often asked if I’m cheating with leaving the music on while I’m away and the answer is no. The thing (probably the only positive one) about my job is that I have my own office where I can listen to whatever music I want to for 8 hours a day. That’s how I start my day and obviously I have music on when I’m at home working or just hanging around so the overall playback time can easily be up to 15-16 hours by the end of the day.
